The partnership of artists Bobby and Barbara Beausoleil was formed in 1981. They met in the autumn of that year at the California prison where Bobby was incarcerated. To enable more intimate forms of communication and a closer collaboration than the circumstances would otherwise permit, they agreed to be legally married. A modest wedding ceremony was conducted in the prison visiting room in December of the same year.

Despite the hardship of Bobby’s ongoing imprisonment, the Beausoleil partnership evolved over several decades and continues to flourish to this day. With mutual support and encouragement, Bobby and Barbara have continued to develop and blossom as artists, both jointly and individually – Barbara as a painter, dancer and musician, Bobby as a visual artist, composer, musician and writer.
